ANIME RAMBLINGS

I've never related to anyone more than Tomoko. She was like a mirror to my past self. The beauty of Watamote is that the author is not afraid to make Tomoko disgusting or foolish instead of making her anti-social behavior into a fetish which made her feel so real and human. In my opinion there is a problem with a lot of fictional female characters that Tomoko seems to conquer. A lot of guy characters can be written as gross and disgusting perverts who have no life but a lot of people are afraid to write the same negative character traits for female characters, which ends up making them seem 1 dimensional. Those negative character traits are not a good thing, but they end up making the characters feel more human as they reflect the ugliness of human behavior and growing up. Just as adolescent guys get damn horny and stupid at that age so do adolescent girls. Furthermore, to top it all off, Tomoko has actually grown and developed in the manga and conquered her loneliness. She actually worked hard to get get friends, which is breaking another stereotype of anti-social people. If you wait for people to go up to you and ask to be friends with you then you're cursed to be lonely forever. A lot of media I've seen keep the shy characters shy simply because it is their quirk for marketing, which I think is a defeatist way to see that kind of behavior. Tomoko's character is a story of trial, error, and risks you have to take to improve yourself.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 0

SO IMAGINE Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Diamond is Unbreakable except that the main character is D'arby and fights are centered around various kinds of games (not just the Duel Monsters card games) And you'll have something similar to Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 0 (in my opinion.) Man, I love Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters but to be honest I feel like season 0 and Toei did a better job of presenting the overall theme of Yu-Gi-Oh! It even outdid some of the manga, I think. When most people think about YGO, they think of card games, but utimately it is a tale of friendship and I don't think Duel Monsters presented it all that well. Yugi and his friends are very close, but that is rarely shown outside of dueling, which makes the rest of the gang besides Jounouchi seem really useless. Even in S0 and Honda didn't do much but what makes S0 so good is that it demonstrated their friendship and relationships better, which made them seem less like lackeys and more like real characters. Anzu even had a personality (surprising, I know.) Her dream of being a dancer in New York was even incorporated in one of the deadly games at Death T about rhythm which she was able to solve because of her dancing studies. She is also shown to be protective of her friends in many episodes, like when Ms. Chouno tried to make fun of one of her friends and Anzu decided to take the bullying in her place and defends Yugi from bullies sometimes. Even Honda's character was made more interesting, though in the manga and Duel Monsters he seemed more like a copy of Jounouchi. Honda is a member of the beautification club, which sounds cool but it's really just clean up duty. He is also love struck for Miho, an extra female protagonist added by Toei. Not only that but he saved the gang several times, like when he raised a digital pet Super Ichigo and "beautifies" his trash personality. Honda even sacrificed his life for Yugi in Death T (though he remained unharmed.) We all know that Jounouchi's parents are divorced, but in the yoyo episode he is shown to be living with an alcoholic and abusive father, and even joined a gang so that his friends wouldn't get hurt. Joey had a lot of pretty serious moments in S0, but he always seems like his happy and goofy self when he is with his friends, which shows the impact that friendship had on him. (also i'm pretty sure Jounouchi has a thing for older women because he had a crush on Shizuka's nurse in that golf episode.) YUGI IS SO FLIPPIN ADORABLE IN SEASON 0 OH MY GLOB. He gets jumped all the time because he is naive and is a little perverse (Yugi exchanges erotic magazines with Joey) but he has a good heart... ... AND YAMI... OH BOY THE PHARAOH IS CRAZY IN SEASON 0... So

Episode Rambles

"Eerie Woman!! Unable to Transform": Aight so one episode Yugi gets a goth girlfriend named Risa Kageyama and Anzu gets a bit jealous uh oh (I thought she liked the "cooler yugi" though?) Yugi gets sick and Risa takes care of him but since Anzu is jealous she tries to care for Yugi also like an overprotective wife as Honda said. She's actually taking advantage of yugi to get his rare violet hekate card (if yugi had a nickel for every time someone tried to be his friend to take advantage of him because he had a rare DM card he would have 2 nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's funny that it happened twice.) Then she proceeds to beat the crap out of yugi and kicks Jounouchi in the crotch. Risa also wields a whip-like weapon which reminds me of the Fallen Angel of Roses card. OH CRAP THERES THREE OF THEM the Kageyamas challenge Yugi to a duel but since Kaiba is a stalker he notices that Yugi is having trouble dealing with them and decides to help yugi defeat them.

"Come Out!! The Strongest and Final Trump Card": OH BOY KAIBA FAMILY LORE... so have you ever wondered how the kaiba brothers got so good at games?? the answer is the final game master yugi has to face... Daimon. When Seto was a young lad he hadd happy memories of learning game strategies with gramps Daimon and eating oranges together. Daimon is made into a cyborg/zombie by the KC tech to preserve his gaming wisdom and become one of Kaiba's game masters. He duels yugi and wins, but then remarks on how kaiba used to smile, like yugi when playing games. ANYWHO YAMI YUGI BEATS HIM BECAUSE HE'S THE KING OF GAMES... DAIMON ALSO FLASHBACKS TO WHEN KAIBA WAS YOUNGER AND IN THIS SCENE KAIBA SMILES SO MUCH...ITS SURREAL.

+9999 dead puppies. IT'S THE PUPPY APOCALYPSE

The Great Melee!! A Popularity Contest: Miho enters a popularity contest to impress bakura because she is the OG bakura fangirl (schools in anime are wild for being able to host these kinds of events...) And there's this red haired chick who is a jerk (The long lost child of Ms Chouno?!) anzu enters the event and so does jounouchi.

Tokyo Godfathers

This is a wholesome movie to watch on Xmas (too bad I watched it in early spring.)So 3 hobos find an abandoned baby and return try to return the baby to her parents in a journey that not only settles the parents' disputes but their own troubles also. Has some laughs and giggles but the characters' stories are sorta depressing if you think about it. also has great art from Satoshi Kon.

Perfect Blue

This movie is a crazyyy its a masterpiece though I highly recommend watching it. LIKE CINEMATOGRAPHY OR WHATEVER IS SO RAD and I don't even know anything about cinematography so that just makes it even more insaaneee. Every scene is really well done and this is a good horror movie.

Haibane Renmei

okay danngggg this anime has pretty sick worldbuilding. Not unexpeceted as it is created by some of the same people who made SEL and Texhnolyze. It seems like a wholesome slice of life anime at some times but they've made it very clear in the first episode how eerie it is by adding the scene where wings pierce out of Rakka's back in a gory mess.
